Happy Father's Day!

This weekend we enjoyed some of Evan's favorite things in honor of Father's Day. We started on Friday night by taking the boys to the Rivercats game. This was our 2nd Friday night in a row at the ballpark so Jack's probably going to start expecting baseball and CrackerJack every Friday!

Then on Saturday we headed to Marin for a BBQ at Nana and Papa's. It was a beautiful day and Jack was thrilled to be spending it in the pool and running around with his cousins. We all enjoyed a great meal outside on the deck- Evan grilled lobster tails for the grownups (one of Evan's favorites and definitely a yummy treat) and hot dogs for the kiddos so everyone was happy! Here are a few pictures from Saturday:

Time for some tickles!

I am having FUN!
After our busy Friday and Saturday everyone was ready to take it easy today- Jack and Miles were pretty worn out honestly! So, we sent Evan off to fish the American River this morning and then spent the rest of the day playing at home and riding bikes followed by a nap (for all 3 boys in this house!).
Thank you Evan for all that you do for our family and most of all for what a great Daddy you are to these 2 little boys- we love you.

A Visit to Fremont

Last weekend the boys and I headed to Fremont for a visit. We had a busy few days! First up was Tamiko's housewarming party. Tamiko and I first met our freshman year at UC Davis and continue to be close friends 15 years later. She just bought her first home in Oakland and it was fun to catch up with her and also see her cute house!
Miles enjoyed his first housewarming party too!

Jack enjoyed a couple of visits to the park while at Grandma and Grandpa's. Playing in the sand is his new favorite park activity.

Miles got to visit the park with Grandma too!

Do you think someone is a little excited about playing outside?

Grandpa also put Jack to work in the yard during our visit- he is always up for a chance to "help" with the hose!

On our last morning in Fremont, Julie stopped by with donuts. Somehow she managed to find one with yellow sprinkles. Yellow is Jack's favorite color and this made his day!

On our way back home we stopped by my friend Melissa's house (another girlfriend from my college days) for a playdate with her 2 girls.

Jack really loved playing with Kaya's ATM machine- he is saving up to buy a treat from the ice cream truck (truly!)

Take me out to the ball game...

Last night we took the boys to their first Rivercats game. The Rivercats are Sacramento's minor league baseball team and we figured that this would be a good introduction to baseball for Jack- close to home (plus we had free tickets from Evan's office!) so if we had to leave in the 2nd inning because of a toddler meltdown it would be no big deal. But, the night ended up going really well and Jack really enjoyed himself. We even managed to stay until the top of the 7th!
Jack quickly discovered the joy of ballpark treats- enjoying his first CrackerJack!
Now, I'll try a red rope. This is the perfect ending to my nutritious dinner of french fries and ice cream...oh well, it's just one night!

Miles was also a good sport! He charmed everyone around us with his smile and took a few snoozes in the baby bjorn.
All in all, we had a fun night out as a family. As I told Evan last night, I imagine that this is the first of many more nights at the ballpark for these boys! Summer is off to a good start.

Looking more alike each day

Miles is now 4 months old! He had his well-check appointment yesterday and the pediatrician confirmed that he is a happy and healthy little guy. Here are his latest measurements:
Weight: 17 lbs. 15 oz.
Height: 26 inches

He is starting to look more like Jack these days- I think it's those cheeks!
Here is a picture of Miles taken this week:

Summer 2009

I have to admit that summer is not my favorite time of year in Sacramento. To be honest, a big part of me dreads the HOT 90 and 100 degree days that are headed our way all too soon. It is hard enough to deal with the hot weather as an adult, let alone trying to keep 2 little people entertained when it is scorching! But, I have to remind myself that there are plenty of good things that come with summer as well. As a kid, I remember thinking that June, July, and August were the best months of the year and I certainly want to start creating happy summer memories for our boys. So in that spirit, here are 10 things our family is looking forward to this summer!
1) Playing outside until dark- with the relaxed bedtimes that come with summer vacation, there are kids outside on our court until 8:00 or 9:00 every night. This means lots of opportunities for Jack to ride his bike, play tag, run through the sprinklers, and just generally enjoy being a kid!
2) Field Trips- we have a list of places we would like to take the boys this summer: the Sacramento and Folsom zoos, Fairytale Town, Muir Woods (when we're really ready to escape the heat!), and the California Train Museum are all on our list.
3) Picnics- Jack is into picnics these days so I can already anticipate plenty of mornings at the park followed by a picnic lunch in the shade and a nice long nap...for all of us.
4) Ice cream- on Tuesday's our local Baskin Robbins has family night with $1 cones. We may be there every Tuesday night until September.
5) BBQ's- Who doesn't love ribs, hamburgers, chicken, and hot dogs fresh from the grill? Plus, this means no cooking for mom as Evan is the BBQer in this house.
6) Swimming- Jack is signed up for his first set of swim lessons the last 2 weeks of June. We also plan to hang out at Aunty Debbie's pool and the new Aquatic Center that just opened at our local high school.
7) Farmer's Market- we all love to spend the morning at the Farmer's Market. Jack, our fruit-a-holic, especially enjoys the summer produce. He cannot get enough of the fresh blueberries, peaches, melon, etc. We still visit the Davis Farmer's Market a lot, but we are hoping to find a good one a little closer to home this summer.
8) Visits with family- we tend to see more of our extended family in the summer with BBQ's, birthday parties, and the like. We are already looking forward to a 2 week visit from our Arizona cousins later this month. Jack asks for Ella and Abby all the time!
9) Air Conditioning- thankfully we have this at home. However, I am on a mission to find plenty of indoor, kid-friendly spots to enjoy as well. We will certainly be cooling off at the mall playgrounds and the library...maybe Evan and I will even manage a night at the movies.
10) The Beach- building sandcastles and swimming in the ocean...need I say more?
Summer- we are ready for you!

This kid is going to give me a heart attack!

This afternoon I left Jack alone in the living room for approximately 2 minutes while I attended to Miles' dirty diaper. When I returned, this is what I saw:
"Look Mommy, I made a slide!"
Yes, Jack had used every couch and chair cushion in the room to create his very own jungle gym. He was so proud of himself that I had to smile. So, I pulled the coffee table back to allow for a little more landing room at the bottom and let him slide away!
